Water Meth Injection - why doesn't everyone do it?

Thinking out loud time again (working on a conference with an hour or 2 to kill)....


If water meth injection lowers the temperatures (intake charge & inside the cylinder) and the meth bolsters the octane of the fuel, how come everyone isn't running water meth kits?

Once I've had my s4 remapped it'll need running on higher octane fuel to prevent knocking, so what's to stop me from fitting a water meth kit and running regular 95 octane unleaded because the h2o & meth is dealing with the knocking issue? Especially considering that the virgin meth stuff is uber cheap (saw prices of 30-40 for 60+ litres online earlier today) - surely doing it this way would be cheaper than having to run the car on 98+ ron fuel?

Obviously there's the initial outlay of the kit, and the kit is really geared more towards big power cars which have hit a ceiling on their ignition curve/ or a kind of 'detonation boundary' so to speak, but if water/meth is far cheaper, why doesn't everyone take the hit & install a kit when they go stage 1-2-2.5?

I am kind of saving for a kit now though..

The devils own group buy was mega cheap compared to the basic aquamist setup but i was out of work at the time and skint after buying rs4 ic's otherwise i would have installed it..

well it's kind of along the similar lines as to why people go and buy a big v8 grand cherokee, and then stick it on LPG to save money but run the same (disregard for a moment, the drop in engine performance when run on LPG), if the initial outlay is a couple hundred quid for kit, fitting costs, extra reservoir in the boot etc... all adds up to a fair bit of cash, but then being able to put in standard unleaded at 1.25/litre instead of super at 1.30 a litre, over a year (my year being 20,000 miles) I'm sure there'd be a saving over long term ownership......



......but it would be bugger all I've realised now that I've had a quiet chat with myself! 3.60 difference between 60 litres of regular and super unleaded - it'd take a lot of mileage & fuel to cover the cost of installing water/meth for the sake of saving that kind of money.

Righto, ignore me please, everyone carry on as normal. (If it's any consellation I'm full of man cold and not had much sleep for about 2 weeks)

w/m is good, i run 4 nozzles which keeps things pretty cool but depending how you drive i can use 2 litres on one track session , not day, and normally 6 litres per tank of fuel.

Well worth it but does get through alot of fluid when nailing it.

although you're not using neat Methanol, so not too bad.

It done absolutely F.A on my car lol nozzles were too big so couldn't control the flow or something! Anyone fancy a snow performance stage 3 w/I kit?

The nozzles kmd tuning said would work and they clearly never the snow kits absolutely superb but of no use to me so someone might aswel have it! Cars at Mrc just now so I can have it whipped out I'm using something else instead of w/I now

I can't remember injector size i would have to ask Doug all I know is it wasn't working on my car lads

you had 8 x 0.75 nozzles on your car . 0.75 is the smallest nozzle size so doug had changed it for 2 nozzles on the inlet to the charger last time i was there , not sure why this didnt work.

On yourself jimbo! There you go lads thats the answer then I've got a snow stage 3 kit with 8 x0.75 nozzles up for grabs! I think Doug was stumped also as to why it didn't show any gains
