What are your normal operating engine OIL temperature ?

While cruising and on spirited drives... ?

Mine is around 100 in town, 110-115 while cruising at around 140kph, and can go all the way up to 120-123 on track or on fast autobahn runs up to 280 kph.

CELSIUS of course
Graham

What car/engine?
laurent21

Sorry I should have said : S5 Sportback 2011 with the V6T 3.0 TFSI

So you did the mod to get oil temp on the DIS? I haven't but from what I read when considering it, temps are slightly higher than people expected.

My guess is Audi never invented the temps to be seen and perhaps would have applied some smoothing if they had.
laurent21

Yes I did. It just seems that temperatures vary from car to car, with this same engine. I can't seem to find out if this engine is meant to run this hot, or if it is like you said...

Mine is generally around 100.

If giving it some gas for a while it goes up to around the 110 mark
Have you considered changing the oil cooler?
laurent21

I have and it turns out there isn't any. Only the exchanger which looks like this :

120/123 is fine if on track I think.
Well within the capabilities of the oil
laurent21

And a sustained 115 on the highway is OK too you think ?
xpower

I would of thought so.

Do you live in a hot country ??
xpower

Done a bit of googling & some are seeing mid to high 120's on track.
So it seems that you are pretty much OK
laurent21

No, I live in France..
Yeah I've looked on many forum and it seems I'm not the only one. Yet others like you can never make it higher than 110.. I wonder why. It seems there are two kinds of oil cooling for this engine.
xpower

It could also be down to different oils used I guess.
Or perhaps a hotter cooling system as an oil/water heat exchanger is used.

For instance I use Millers Nanodrive oil.

Seems like a good oil ! I use motul 5w40 300V.. supposed to be a fine oil.

I have used Motul allot over the years.
Decided to try the Millers magic this time though
laurent21

Do you see a difference ?

I should of been clearer,I have only used the Millers in the S4.
It would be interesting though if you where to try the Millers  Nano as a comparison
laurent21

Not sure if I can get it in France
laurent21

Xpower : I found a store that sells it in France ! I'll try it next oil change !
