what does one think of this RS6?

I am seriously missing having a belter of an everyday car, and the sunfrigginlounge that the GTR was gonna pay for is cancelled due to wifely otherness, so I'm in the market with 20K burning a hole in my pocket.

What do you think of this one. Certain some peeps will have owned this one, given the history.

I'm new to the 6's - what's to go wrong? Cambelt every 35K? I have no clue

http://www.millenniumheroes.com/cars/audi-rs6-2-for-sale/

Thanks for any advice.
Ermmm and hate to ask but what's the towing weight for these teehee.
Shoppinit

I think this is Moonwalker's old car. Lovely one, too.

Towing weight is officially zero. Of course it *can* tow a decent load, but it's not homologated for it. Might be a deal breaker if your insurance company won't play ball.

They are awesome cars, but not cheap to run. Frequent cambelt. 40k or 90k depending on Audi's mood that day.

Budget for a new gearbox at some point. All slush boxes die. Those in the RS6 tend to expire sooner.

Agree with the above

However the add states a 6 speed box
jockthedog

Hehe I'm used to expensive to run cars 😀 just paid 800 for 2 tyres and a set of front pads for the s4. One single Dunlop for the gtr was 600 at one point!
What's this slush box then?  Is it a dual clutch job? Are those available?
Crap i might have to have this or something like it. I'll get wifey some new pots and pans to keep her happy

Save up and get a C6

Isn't it a version of the ZF 5HP24A auto similar to the D2 S8 but taking plenty more power?
Shoppinit

The C6 has got a nice engine in it. Shame they are so fugly.

Dual clutch? Twas just a twinkle in the eye of its inventor when the RS6 came out.

The C5 has the zero clutch version. Not very far removed from a box you'd find in, say, a jaguar XJS.

Hate them or loathe them, that's what you get.
Shoppinit

Nope. PLENTY more in that specific RS6.
Shoppinit

To clarify: the car has plenty more power, but the box can take slightly more power than a D2 S8.
HPsauce

You are right there.
Shoppinit

In fact, it wouldn't be entirely inaccurate to say that they actually used a box from the D2 S8 to put in the RS6, but just crossed their fingers a lot more.

The finger crossing didn't work very well.
HPsauce

They had to cross their fingers and legs already for the S8.
Shoppinit

Audi do a lot of that, I've noticed...
Rasss-4

Is that Amar's old +?

That's not Amars car
jockthedog

That's kinda what I was thinking given the ref to the PLUS number plate.

I recognise that red 'un from Autohaus in Bilston yesterday
jockthedog

Oh, Amanda, FS Where TF have you been hiding, lass?

What makes you say it's not his - beige interior?
HPsauce

Certainly looks like it, but does the history match?
jockthedog

I officially hate the look of the C6.
Fugly does it a favour. Shouldatakenapill is more like it.

C5 is close to B5 isn't it?

What about a b8 s4 Jock?
jockthedog

Excellent

So seen as though this thread has been hijacked anyway - hows the bmw convertible going? Might be off to have a look at one tomorrow to tick the rwd, convertible and bmw ownership off the list

I think it is Amar's old one..

Zooming in on the interior pick it looks like number 126.. Amar's was 126..
jockthedog

Oi, get yer own thread, bloody interposters.

Well done on zoomin in.

Couldn't figure that out after a wottle of bine.
Ian_C

Definitely Amars old car. †I knew the previous owner too who owned it from 9000 miles. †It's had paint in the past, but only a front bumper (marked, not crashed) and drivers door sill (scuffs) and the drivers rear wheel arch (woman drove into it - tiny tiny graze only) resprayed afaik. †Its been with Lucas at 4 Star since around 2013. †I'm sure Amar put C6 brakes on it, hence it looks like it has now been returned to stock with new discs and pads and refurbed calipers
marc1

I was going to say I was 99.9% sure this was Amar's old car. †History stacks up with his too.
jockthedog

why do people keep removing all the good bits?

I found the zOOOOOOM button and yeah, 126 I think. Could get those seats dyed dark blue although I actually like the beige. I hate white internals but this seems warm and friendly.
Will offset my demeanour nicely.

126 - perfect if you were born on the 12th of june, eh? or 26th jan in Americar.

Sadly I am neither.

Think this might be a winner tho.

Here tis...

http://audisrs.com/RS6_Plus_Sprint_Blue_For_Sale_about53112.html

I may do some haggling with the dealer, he's had it a while.

I sooooo like the look more than the more modern cars. Those have too much grill. Too american chrysler looking. Know what I mean?
I guess this is like making love to a beautiful woman. If you concentrate on her nose - if it is small and pretty - you might not notice her sagging tits and wonky eyes.
Stigter

Seen the rs6 plus on rs246.com, nice spec number 326 so a later built car - with recent gearbox replacement, mrc map. yeah its done a few more miles at 113k, has Miltek exhaust with decat downpipes
Black leather with Alancantra seats. Best part is its advertised for £10750.

seems fair for spec/miles if its as advertised.
jockthedog

"an ESTATE car???" said my neighbour earlier. I had to laugh.

Gearbox-wise, this doesn't look too hard untill you see the size of his circlip pliers....! I need a set of those!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5cCSa0qPLo

Looking about there's plent of choice TBH.

Good spot on 246 tho. Waiting to join now. Lost the service book = small problem.

Are these pluses just not worth the effort?
I'm getting negative vibes man. No more with the negative vibes.
Think happy thoughts.
Stigter

That one on RS246 I mentioned looks to have been previously owned by the user alexrs6plus. Its got me interested in it - the alcantara seems worn on the rear seat (maybe child seat or something) - but think it has had a lot of work carried out by alexrs6plus as talks about new intercoolers and other parts being fitted under audi warranty. some posts about a rear bumper needing work due to dropping a concrete slab on it getting it in the car-  sounds bad but could be ok car. aquamist system etc.
MRC might know a bit about this car.
ian52

I keep looking at them but what about a nice B5 RS4? Pretty much depreciation proof now and one with a few sensible mods will be pretty quick for an old audi bus!

All the bits that are missing that were on his car! Like the 3 spoke steering wheel he had retrofitted to replace the NastY mfsw .........brakes etc!

Ha work is keeping me whay whay too busy
jockthedog

I just bought a reg number.

Now what should I put it on....?
jockthedog

Hmmm, what's all this then?

I've never been to the opera but I imagine that the very best basso forte singers might come close to the soundtrack.

Never had a V8 before. Will be spending a lot of time in this one. It'll meet some good back roads tomorrow, just to get it dirty.

Dirtier.

It is mint inside. Will be kept that way.
Might need to find out what this polish stuff is for, too.
I'm kinda chuffed

It's safely tucked up in the garage which has JUST enough room. It's longer than the GTR was, but a bit narrower.

Yeah the soundtrack is awesome Doug, loved mine

Now all you need is a decent number plate for it
jockthedog

hmmm you no likey R555SSG?
'RS6' was 'available' but judging from other like plates, would be 150K+, so that's where I started being sensible.

I'm just looking to de-age the car, really.

<penny drops>

But if you are selling RS666
I thought that had gone already?

Nope.

but it's yours for 149K
jockthedog

150K is for an 'RS' plus one number - there can only be 10 of those.

Your's is one of 1000, so 100x more available than the one for 150K, so therefore yours should be 1.5K.

It's quite simple Mike.

Didn't someone on here use RS666 as a handle? Thought they'd bought your precious.

I like your man maths Doug but you need to ditch your abacus! Lol.

Yeah RS666 is a user name on here, Noggy owner to boot!
marc1

Haha well done Jockthedog.  That Plus was a great car when Amar had it.  We need more pictures though. Will definately be interested in your views on how it handles.  I've always had a soft spot for the C5 RAs6 and very nearly bought one not too long ago.  The S4 track toy looks awesome in that picture too.
Bobsaver501

I'd only have one of those if it was converted to a manual as some on AZ have done in the past. You're the man for that when the time comes.
