What type of exhaust would you recommend?

Good morning

As the title suggests any idea or anyone had one fitted?

I have looked at the scorpion option

Thanks

Andy
CliveH

I've always had Millteks on my S/RSs.

I have the non resonated Milltek on the B8, loud and purposeful but not too droney on motorway runs. There is also a variable programmable version.

Miltek sounds good.

How much and were best to buy mate?
martziniuk

The scorpion videos do sound good.

Hi Andy

I run a Milltek resonated but with the front box replaced with the X-pipe that is fitted on the valvesonic system

It rocks lol
muscledelivery

Not a b8 owner but after watching the armytrix exhaust promo I realy wish I was.
big eck

I have the scorpion on mine, have to say it's very quiet. I've had milteks on most of my old cars (not by choice) and even tho they sounded great and the tailpipes looked good the quality of them are shocking especially given the price they charge. I'd never have another.

I was under the impression both miltek and scorpion have now discontinued systems for the b5 s4.
That's what I was told when ordering them.trade certainly.
Ended up letting a customer down recently on a price I quoted after contacting them to place orders and being told there nla.
Said customer ended up paying 700 quid for miltek cat back as a few are still available on ebay at present

I'm running a resonated Milltek on mine also, sounds awesome when under heavy load, purposeful but not too loud when you are driving normally.
xpower

Milltek ValveSonic here.
Best of both worlds

Dane

How many of you guys with exhausts have avants?

I havent got one because I was concerned the boot would induce drone. And on 3.0 tfsi bigger exhausts don't yield much in the way of performance.
CliveH

I have an avant with non-res, not much drone on the motorway although as mentioned above valvesonic is the best of both worlds but costly.

Exhaust mods on a B8 do little for performance, it's all about sound!

Thanks Clive

I'd probably go res then so I don't want to kill myself after a 13 hour drive through Europe
buzzard

No drone at all with res and X-pipe

This is who I was going to go with if Id kept mine.  Looks OEM, sounds much better and is reasonable priced.  You do have to cut into the rear system mind you.
I just couldn't justify paying 1000 for some extra noise.
Geoff A

I put the BCS Powervalve rear boxes on my Avant. Looks better than OEM, sounds better too. Not too loud, and not intrusive when cruising. But it gives a little more rasp and fart on upshifts. As its only a rear box swap, there's no drone and its very easy to go back to standard.

Good to know - helps keep the cost down too
Dane

How do they
"harvest some of the boost pressure to activate our exhaust valves"?

Run a pipe from the engine bay to the rear?
Geoff A

There's no valves on my BCS system Dane. Its all down to pipe design and flow - one straight through unsilenced outlet with a bore restrictor to limit the volume of gas and noise going through; and one standard muffled outlet without a bore restrictor. Simple, but clever way to manage noise.

I withdraw my previous post !! I thought I was reading the b5 forum .... sorry guys
Dane

Ah ok, sorry I was reading through the description of their valved exhausts and assumed that's what you had. Although closer inspection shows they don't make those systems for B8's.

Geoff come along to the next buddies meet (whenever Mike organises one) it's in Towcester so shouldn't be too much of a drive from Oxfordshire, I'd love to go for a ride in yours before I make up my mind.
Geoff A

That sounds like a plan, be great to meet a few of you guys. And if you're ever on the A40 and heading past Carterton, you're welcome to drop in.

Can you post a picture or two please?

Here you go Graham....

What is the noise difference like??  More notable??

Andy
Graham

Thanks Geoff. Looks good.
Geoff A

The noise is much the same when cruising Andy, but deeper and meatier when you pull away, a more vocal when going for it. Its not loud enough to do your head in, but its a pleasant sound quality for a V6 - difficult to describe really.

I did video the system when first installed - will get the link up. And I have to say, the sound quality has improved through use, as its stopped the boxes sounding empty, if that makes sense.

Will be going to the buddies meet-up in April, I know Dane is keen to listen to it. As said before, no drone, as its only a rear box swap.
Geoff A

Here you go, have a watch/listen - I shot and edited this, but Nige at BCS put it online. And I reckon its got a lot better since then.

is there an aftersales argument? although many exhausts could and will be 'better' than milltek will a potential buyer when told you have a X Y or Z exhaust react differently to its 'fitted with a milltek' a recognised well promoted aftermarket exhaust manufacturer?
172cup

My God you can really tell the difference there. And I bet it's not as expensive as a full scorpion I was thinking about... Emma food for thought, but really that video clip has made my mind up an exhaust is needed....
Geoff A

Paid 750 for the boxes.
