It's just not aggressive enough for my liking, although it may look better in the flesh, and those wheels are awful..

DRC and N/A ...... I think Audi are losing the plot. With only 317lb/ft of torque its hardly going to make you feel like you've been kicked in the guts, and IMO that's how a decent S/RS should make you feel.

Well I think it's pretty damned nice. Just think what it will be like with a charger on it.

Has anything already been developed for the RS5?

Yep, "most" (but not all obviously) buyers of these cars new just want the latest buzz car on the market along with the corporate high flyers looking to get the next 12-24 months flying up and down the motorway in their latest "gadget".

If these cars were being bought largely by enthusiasts, they might well have to listen to them, but unfortunately, they don't!

Largely though, it's still a lovely motor, just not perhaps what the majority would have preferred, i.e Turbo's and Manual option.

Is this the first time Audi has brought out a new RS4 that probably won't out drag a current M3/competition in a straight line?

That's the key point here though, you shouldn't need to bolt a charger on to make it awesome, it's an RS, it should be awesome from the factory!

When has an RS ever been awesome from the factory?

First RS4 needed better brakes, better suspension and at least a map to make most happy. Very few standard cars out there now.

The RS2 didn't even have larger arches, where did they go so wrong with that one!?!?

Manufacturers are always going to hold back a bit. Get used to it!

FWIW

I think that Audi have got the look right, it looks aggressive, stands out. The interior looks very nice as you'd expect from Audi and I'm sure it will sell well.

I think its unfortunate for us that they have not developed the 3ltr TFSi from the S4 for this model.

However they have used the B4, B5 and C5 RS's to build a following and they are now able to sell in bigger quantities to people who are not 'enthusiasts'. It's business.

This engine must have been developed for the RS5 and the RS4 because the development cost would not have been returned just on the sales of the RS5. The RS5 is not a big seller. It was inevitable. Another example is the TTRS, they couldn't make the development without the RS3 as well.

Audi are doing very well these days so they have got something right. RS models are not sold in low numbers anymore, so we would be naive to think that every new model will be special. They now make two RS models that don't have proper Quattro systems for example.

The RS6 will continue to bring in new technology, and probably be a loss leader. The rest of the RS models will be expected to make profits. This RS doesn't have Sat Nav as standard - 'If the car is equipped with an Audi navigation system, a largely driver-configurable custom mode is also available'

I don't think we should expect Cosworth developed bespoke engines anymore, the RS cars will cycle around the M cars and vice versa, these cars are made to sell in numbers, they have already gained the following.

Its not even a "real" RS FFS its built in Hungary

However,

I like the NA V8 with the 7 speed box but not to sure about the DRC option.

I see there using those exhaust noise producers things. Seemed to remember reading about them in the latest Audi Driver mag.

Only shot that really shows the lines at the rear for me:

Unfortunately the subtleness would rule out a black one for me, as the lines look lost in the darkness. Otherwise, bring the noise!
