Hey guys,

Mihnea, you tuned my KO4-d S4 a few years ago - L60OBS.

It's still running like a train, mainly round the track, no problems.

I just replaced my SMICs with an FMIC.
While testing for leaks and hoses popping off etc, I unplugged the MAF and gave it the beans several times.

With the MAF off, I saw almost 30 psi, and generally 27, when I would normally get 22 or so with the MAF in place and the map functioning.

Q: Does it make sense that the car would give me so much fuel and boost when basically in limp mode?
Is that part of your programming?

Maf has nothing to do with boost profile. When unplugged - all functions comes down to your throttlebody and WG maps.

Just the opposite, Stuart! If it holds 27psi, no boost leak there!

Haha Doug, if I wasn't 400 miles away I might 'just drop in'.

I was out testing again today, with everything plugged in and I saw 30-odd on the boost gauge. I didn't dare push it further, although I'll be doing just that next weekend on the track.
I wonder if one or both DVs are jamming. I have replacements just sitting there. Maybe I'll swap them in tomorrow.

I wouldn't expect the FMIC to be making any difference to the boost pressure. In fact the volumes of that vs the two SMICs is almost identical.

The DV shouldn't affect the boost I would think. Have you tried a spare N75?

Ok, new N75 arrived and installed without any pain, thanks to there already being jubilee clips on the hoses instead of those single-use clips.

Popped out for a spin and now the boost is certainly much more controlled. It is down on what I had with the SMICs - peaking at maybe 20 and holding at 15-17.
I was getting peak 25 and holding at 20-22 with the SMICs, as far as I remember.

I expect the difference is in the increased number of silicon hoses and pipework in general, giving a larger volume of air to compress over the SMICs.
We'll see what the performance is like on the track on Saturday, but at least I won't be blowing my engine up!

I don't think I have a boost leak, or it wouldn't have held 25+ before i changed the N75.
I suppose a remap might help. No reason to be limited to 15psi when the car has been making a lot more for the last few years.
Wosrt case, I have to go back to SMICs.

Strange that the N75 should give up coincidentally during my change of ICs.
I wonder if running WOT with no MAF caused it to fail?

With my old S3 I changed the engine for one out an A3 Quattro. Just the block and head and it ran too much boost after that. No idea why as everything was put back how it came off. I was able to adjust the N75 slightly by the screw on the top. I know your not meant to be able to but it worked.
