So got the drivers side wing off last night, and both new wings on!! woohoo!

The drivers side removal is slightly trickier than the near side actually.

But basics are the same as above..

So..(pic numbers are refering to the pics above)

1. Remove bottom plastic trim at the rear of the wing ( it covers two 25 hex bolts) and will need to be glued back on new wing..(no pic)
2. Remove 2 said 25mm hex bolts (no pic)
3. Remove piece of trim under main indicator housing, I used trim removal tool (pic 8,9)
4. Remove 30mm hex bolt under that piece of trim (pic 10)
5. Remove the bolts along the top of the wing, mixture of 10mm and 13mm (there is one under the foam end of the scuttle panel! Little blighter!!) oh and there is also a small black clip on both sides which do a cable and bonnet release cable. (Pics 11,12,13,14)
6. Remove the 25mm hex at the top rear of wing, you need to open the door to see it. (Pic 15)

Now it changes a bit on the rear of the wing…

7. There is the black plastic tank/container (pic 17)(not sure what its for?) that is sitting in front of the black plastic vertical piece that the other side has so there are a few extra bolts and nuts to remove..Remove the 10mm nut half way down the container (pic 1 and it then reveals the rest of the bolt, this is the same as the 10mm bolt that you removed on the nearside.  There are then also two other 10mm screws to remove (pic 19,20) I must add that the pics of the funny bolt, the one in the middle i placed in the wrong place for the photo!! it should be slightly to the right as you look at the photo! In pic 20 you can see a kink in the pipe on the container, the pipe will split here and can then be swung forward and out of the way a bit so that you can get behind it.

8.Remove the wiring for the side repeater.

17.

18.

19.

20.

Putting the new wings back on is really just a reverse of the taking off.  Remember to out the indicator bulbs back in before screwing on the rear black plastic vertical bit.  I took photos, as you can see, as i went along so that i could reference them when putting everything back together!  Keep your screws etc in a tub/safe, so as not to lose anything too! haha!

old and new wings..offside..

nearside…

I am enjoying this thread, keep up the good work. Pretty sure an 80 was the first Audi I ever drove, a 1.8 with an auto box my father in law used to own. Compared to the other crap I had owned and driven I was amazed at how solid and heavy it felt. Styling wise they have aged well, keen to see what you do with it.

Cheers Lewis!  Hopefully not having to do too much to it! haha  A few wee jobs but after that not much.  Many change the front bumper, but really don't need to and it would be purely cosmetic,

Looks good!

Fit an S2 / Mk4 V6 / late Mk4 Cab front bumper!  Would look soo much fresher and beefier!

I'm on the lookout for an S2 or b4 (mk4?) v6 one. So yeh, if you or anyone knows of one going then give me a shout!

@Mike, haha the pink removal tools!
The second wing came off no probs.. Update coming..

S2 forum is worth a look!  S2 parts prices are definitely going now though.....

I'll check in with the s2forum, see what's about!!

Getting there with the jobs...

Got the odometer pulled apart following the guide on odometer gears.com, and I've got one of my 15 teeth missing from the small cog, so going to get a replacement for that...

Pic of the missing tooth and the other pic is the bigger cog underneath the small cog, it looks to be fine condition.

Yet to be tested to see if it is working again.. that will have to wait until the brakes are all put back together..they should be back from the refurb company tomorrow...

Followed the excellent guide on odometers.com and literally its taking screws off.. the tricky bit that they mention is getting the needle off... mine came off fairly easily!

Take pics as you go of the different screws would be my advice, and have a wee container to put them all in.

Basically the small yellowish cog on mine was missing a tooth so appeared to stationery against the other cog that in turn turns the odo and trip.  So very kindly a chap called Greg_s on S2 forum posted one out to me as he had spares!

Any questions fire away..

Pics...

old one off and new one on..edit...these are my 2.5 year olds sons fingers by the way!!! Honest!! lol

speedo part back in..

the back showing the various screws to be put back in..

The two screw (which are actually small nuts) have a washer under them, be careful not to lose them, one stayed out the other fell out..but was safe..

Enjoy!!
