I have both the boxes in my garage so I could send  pics, but yes, adapter plate.
Ask the guys on rs246 - I'm sure someones over there will have done this.

the O1E box def bolts up to a 4.2 v8 non turbo using a ttv lightweight flywheel (they do 8 and 10 bolt flys that accept an B5 RS4 clutch) and you dont need the gearbox spacer

A guide to swap a 01E into a C5 RS.

Looks like MRC have done at least one of these conversions before: http://audisrs.com/viewtopic.php?t=47211&start=0

From the thread above:

Quote:
01E Gearbox with hardened gear set. (<1000miles on it)
01E Gearbox Brackets
01E Gearbox Mounts
Pedal Box Conversion to manual
Clutch switch added
Clutch master cylinder/hydraulic lines/reservoir and slave cylinder added
Propshaft for manual box
Front driveshafts for manual box
Custom adapter for gearbox
Custom Uprated ceramic Clutch kit
Gearbox linkage arms for manual box/manual gearstick box/trim for cabin

Perhaps you could speak to them about it?

They forgot:
- Custom race starter motor with off-set pinon
- Custom flywheel

Also, I'm pretty sure MRC said they'd never do another one... although, never say never when the money is good.

Does that box bolt straight on to the V8 or will it require an adapter plate

An adaptor plate is required.

Have a look at http://www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=83738

Here's an 01E spacer on top of an RS6 engine, the green circles are the bolt holes that match up.

That's a hell of a lot of work and expense for a manual box I personally don't think I'd ever spend that much you could buy and modify a C6 to 800+bhp for that kind of money

It was completed in 2009, the C6 hadn't been out a year and at that point C6 maps were mostly a safe 650ish. Plus, the C6 wasn't a manual.
Again, I'm pretty sure MRC said they'd never do another one...
It's certainly rare and a bit bonkers. I don't know of another C5 with GT30s and inconnel tubulars.
