hi, Take a look at Audiís pocket rocket! This stunning machine is the S1 Ė a super hatch flagship that will sit at the very top of the German firmís all-new small car range.

Gunning for high performance small cars such as the MINI John Cooper Works and the forthcoming Alfa MiTo GTA, the S1 will be the ultimate evolution of the A1 line-up, packing 200bhp and a Quattro four-wheel drive chassis.

But itís the looks that will have buyers beating a path to Audiís showrooms. Taking the compact, chunky A1 three-door shape Ė previewed by the Metroproject Quattro concept, revealed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show Ė the S1 adds an aggressive bodykit.

It features flared arches, filled with 19-inch alloy wheels, a neat roof-mounted spoiler, and a particularly aggressive front end with a low front splitter, deep air intakes and menacing daytime LED running lights. Chrome highlights finish the visual upgrades.

The A1 line-up is set to benefit from a wide range of innovative, small capacity, forced induction engines including a turbocharged1.2-litre TFSI unit for the entry-level model Ė and the S1 will be no different.

Under the bonnet will be a development of the same supercharged and turbocharged 1.4-litre engine as the VW Polo GTi (Issue 1,044) and SEAT Ibiza Cupra. In those models, the unit produces 178bhp Ė but thanks to some upgrades and a tweak of the ECU, the tiny powerplant will produce in excess of 200bhp and 300Nm of torque.

Hooked up to a seven-speed S-Tronic twin-clutch gearbox, the S1 should provide shattering performance. Expect a 0-60mph time of around six seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 155mph. However, itíll also be economical too Ė that small capacity should mean itíll return 35mpg combined.

personally i don't know it exactly but i've been reading a few stories on the imminent release of the Audi s1 or possibly RS1 depending what Audi decide to do.

I haven't found any firm details on them yet although quite interested myself.

I believe it's going to be quattro and be fitted with a 7 speed dsg gearbox which will both be big  for me.

Engine wise I've read either a 1.6t or 2.0t pushing out around 220bhp. Fairly decent power figures, but I'd much prefer the 2.0t that's fitted to the audi's at the moment with 211ps. I'm also hoping Audi manage to keep the weight down to under 1200kg to make it a quick hot hatch and not give it decent power and make it weigh 1500kg!!!

Finally can't see what there going to do for pricing. A decent A1 fwd s line with the 1.4 tfsi 185bhp engine sits in around £20k+ with few options fitted. I can imagine the s1 sitting at around £25k + which would then put me in the awkward position of a year 6 month / 1 year old s3 which would be a step up again in most people's books
