Hi,

I've got a B8 S4 with 2G MMI High and the B&O audio. I love the sound, but I must admit that I'm finding the overall setup a bit out of date. Plus a couple of the speakers are a bit ropey at higher volumes, bit of crackling sound.

I've got an AMI stereo cable to plug my iPhone in for audio streaming (bit of hum but it works), and I almost always use the phone for satnav. Phone calls more or less work but the big lag when the head unit notices the phone bluetooth means that I can't really use Siri for voice dialling! Plus with the phone mostly on sat nav duty, the car's screen is kind of wasted.

I looked at getting the update discs for the builtin nav, but Audi are quoting me £200 for the discs (the guy was helpful enough to tell me that I would have no trouble doing the update myself once I've got the discs).

So I'm looking for ideas on how to upgrade it. Retrofitting any of the 3G systems looks insanely expensive.

Has anyone added a third-party system, e.g. using the B&O amp, but with a Carplay addon screen (maybe triggered by the "Nav" button on the centre console…)?

Is there any way to get an AMI Lightning cable that supports recent iPhones for music - e.g. display on screen and control from the head unit?

Any thoughts would be great.

Best,
Lyndon

Hiya

2G MMI update discs can be bought for a lot less than the official channels - I may even be able to assist if you wanted one....

I'm aware that there's an option from Alpine for non-nav cars, but don't think it'd work for an MMI equipped car as the controls go in the centre stack - could be wrong though.

Only way to stream from your phone is with a tunes2air module connected to a 40pin Apple connector to the AMI, then you need to stick your phone in the armrest if you want it charging too.  That's the only way I'm aware of for any pre-facelift model, 2G or 3G.

I'd be keen to hear of a cheaper maps update route. Is there any way to get better traffic updates? The main reasons why I use my iPhone are quickly finding addresses, and the real-time traffic & rerouting. I like the builtin nav's heads up display and the bigger map screen.

The Tune2Air option looks like the best way forward for all the audio stuff - thanks for the tip.
