For me it happens about twice per week on average, but over the Christmas period it crashed at least once every evening (perhaps because the internet was busy?).
Every time it does it I think I must reinstall W7, but in fairness it only takes a minute or two to recover. The old "blue screen of death" has become a blue screen of slight inconvenience.
I just wondered if this is the same for everyone, or is my set-up particularly unstable?

hasnt crashed once for me, or boychild, or wife, on any of our devices since release. Spooky. Although, neither did win7.

check your event viewer for specifics, maybe there's a clue.

Never. Got Win 10 Pro on 3 computers and it has been perfect on the newer two but won't update to 1607 from 1511 on the Gigabyte T1125 pro which is 6-7 years old now. Otherwise works fine on that one too.

Almost certain to be a hardware incompatibility issue or a piece of bloatware causing problems.

My desktop takes the upgrade to Win10 without complaint.  My 6 yr old HP laptop with dual graphics hangs for a minute every time you fire it up, or try and unlock it.  Finally had enough yesterday and rebuilt it to Win7Pro with a fresh build.

You could try the in-place repair of Win10 and see if that resolves it?  Depends how your drives are configured......

Coming back to this, it seems pretty stable now.
W7 was always OK, W10 was bad from day one but got particularly bad at the time I posted. The issue seems to have been with my Nvidea graphics card and driver, which had been failing to update for some time. I updated it manually and all seems OK now (fingers crossed).

Windows 10 is much better these days. Always try and do a fresh installation rather than an upgrade over an old OS.

You can actually still upgrade to Windows 10 for free if you use any of the built in assertive technologies like the screen magnifier or narrator: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/accessibility/windows10upgrade

My preference is to upgrade a machine first which will register it with Microsoft's licensing server, then format and perform a clean install from USB/DVD. Windows 10 will be activated once you connect to the internet and will be very stable.

Yep, my Windows 10 laptop crashes occasionally, almost always due to the Nvidia graphics drivers, which it doesn't seem to ever find updates for.

A lot of Win7 era hardware seems to have zero support from the PC manufacturers in terms of Win10 drivers.  It's the reason I went back to a Win7 build on my otherwise high spec laptop, as it simply wouldn't work reliably with Win10.

NVIDIA drivers seem to be OK for me, but it requires GeForce Experience software to be installed to manage the updates of graphics drivers for my card (GTX750) so that may be the issue if you're relying on Windows to find updated drivers?

The only issue I'm still experiencing is with accounts randomly failing to load (you get a warning that it's failed to open and you're in a temporary account) which I think is more to do with my AV software (Avast).  First time it happened I ended up recreating 2 user accounts on the PC, but this time I tried a system restore, which failed, but still seemed to fix the problem!

Running 4 Windows laptops (one is a 32GB eepc that is always in the boot with VCDS but runs 1703  32 bit without a hitch).

Of the rest (all 64 bit) one started life with 7 pro and all the updates to 1703 have been applied on top, one started with 8 pro and all updates applied on top to 1703, and the last, a Dell XPS 15 with 32 GB RAM came with 10 pro installed and has had 1511 and 1607 then 1703 applied.

The oldest struggles but never BSOD.

The middle one is perfect, never an issue.

The Dell is a fantastic piece of kit but intermittently I get a real rash of BSOD. Mostly after some screen driver upgrade. Problems after both the Intel and Nvidea driver updates. On top of that, 1703 hasn't been the greatest on this platform. The most expensive computer I have ever bought and the software performance has been the worst.

Big tick for 7 Pro as the best OS for me. 10 Pro was also good on earlier computers until I upgraded the platform and then took a dive. For me, there is some problem between platform and OS that did not and still has not occured with other brands.

Just had a success that may be a pointer for others. The Dell running Win 10 64 bit 1703 (creators version) has been regularly crashing since 1607 came on the scene. Trawling through the various fault logs that litter the landscape and came across various mentions of unscheduled shut downs linked to Dell Premier color (sic) and Defender. I disabled premier color and since then no issues. Rock solid. While no one else may have this combo, the updates have introduced some software incompatibility that impacted on my setup. The other computers are soldiering on with no problems and they don't have that software installed.
